We have been living with an Oculus Quest 2 now for just over a week and it is turning out to be a fantastic investment with entertainment for the whole family of all ages.
The Oculus Quest 2 is the newest addition to the Oculus line up from Facebook. The Quest 2 replaces the original Oculus Quest which was a standalone device where you could escape the cabled requirement of the Oculus Rift and play VR games anywhere.
The Oculus Rift is a very powerful device and the graphics and gameplay is pioneering for VR Gaming but the Oculus Quest 2 is taking the crown away and leading the way forward.
The Oculus Quest 2 features ‘Rift’ mode where you can connect a USB-C cable to your VR-Ready Computer and play games via the Oculus store on your computer as you can do with an Oculus Rift; what is better, you can still download games and apps direct to your Quest 2 so you can detach the cable and play Quest 2 Games & Apps freely.
The VR Games and Apps are expensive as expected, there is a lot of work that goes into the development of them. One example of the first app we purchased was the Plank Walk Experience, it costs £12 and it is simply a VR app where you are on a street and you can walk into an elevator to go to the top floor of a skyscraper and walk off a plank of wood which is hanging over the edge. It also features fun games such as VR Firefighting where you can fly around the town with a fire extinguisher and rocket.
I think it set us back £299 and each game varies in cost of £10-£30 but it is a great investment which offers hours of fun to the whole family.
My children love it, especially with the fact you can link it up with their Favourite Roblox game and play it in Virtual Reality (no additional cost!)
